Kona is a city that loves change – and lives it 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So instead of simply lounging on the beach and soaking in the sun, snag one of our rental cars in Kona and discover what this exciting city has to offer.
Top down – or windows down, as the case may be – there’s no better place to break in your Kona rental car than the Queen K Highway up to Waimea, where each October Ironman tri-athletes push their bodies to the limits along one of the most scenic routes in Hawaii. Along the way, stop and take in the view, take a few pictures and grab a bite to eat. On the way home, watch as the sunset explodes into the sky (and take a few more pictures).
Tomorrow, take one of our Kona rental cars up to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and explore the rumbling, rocky earth – and some of the most magnificent views on the island. When you’re done, head over to one of the area’s world-famous coffee plantations to sip some brew, wander the plantation and just enjoy the scenery. Tonight – take in a traditional luau and make the entire day about what Hawaii is famous for.
Of course, if a “go, go, go” vacation isn’t your thing, relaxing at the beach is always fantastic. But you owe it to yourself to explore at least few of the world-famous beaches in the area, so pack your swimsuits, towels and flip-flops and take your rental car in Kona to some of the best. A few local favorites include the disappearing sands of White Sands Beach County Park, Kahaluu Beach Park and Old Kona Airport State Recreation area.
